Rum Bunkhouse.  Book accommodation in the bunkhouse, the cabins, the campsite and moorings through this website. There’s also a shop for Rum Bunkhouse items such as hoodies, beanies, mugs etc. 

Kinloch Castle, Isle of Rum Topotheque This is Kinloch Castle and the Isle of Rum’s own topotheque – linking photographs and documents to sites on the map, it will grow to cover the whole island, showing archaeological, geological and many other points of interest. Calmac    The ferry company which can take you to Rum. The site includes all the timetables and prices: make sure you check both winter and summer timetables to get the correct times.

Nature.Scot The website of NatureScot formerly SNH, the organisation responsible for the Isle of Rum and Kinloch Castle

Westword    The online version of the community newspaper for Mallaig, Morar, Arisaig, Lochailort, Glenfinnan, Knoydart, Glenuig and the Small Isles

Art UK  The website initially compiled by the BBC which guides the user to paintings in public ownership and includes illustrations and information about some of the paintings in Kinloch Castle

Rampant Scotland is a website which links to a whole host of useful Scotland related sites, ranging from travel through family history, language, geography – a cornucopia.

Edwin Waugh      The Lancashire Radical poet Edwin Waugh visited Rum at the behest of John Bullough, his patron. The Minor Victorian Writers website gives the text of his poems and prose including that of  ‘The Limping Pilgrim in his wanderings’ which begins with Waugh’s visit to Rum in 1882

Bullough Mausoleum The Monuments and Mausolea Trust have a website with details of examples all over the UK. This link takes you to the Bullough details.

Grandhotel Giessbach The Hotel Giessbach on Lake Brienz in the Bernese Oberland was the home of Bertha nee Schmidlin, John Bullough’s first wife. Her father was first employed to landscape the gardens then became the hotelier. The Grandhotel was built later and the original hotel is now used as staff accommodation.

Giessbach Topotheque  This site links photographs from different dates and other items to specific sites around the Giessbach estate. Compiled by the Giessbach archivist and KCFA member Thomas Krebs it is not just a wonderful resource but gave the idea for the topotheque for Kinloch Castle and the Isle of Rum. NB The wording is in German as yet.
