The Empire Room has still the original wall paper. It is said to be Lady Monica’s tribute to her ancestor Napoleon but this relationship has not been proven. The two cases of humming birds are said to be of birds which had been free flying in one of the glasshouses of the walled garden. Also on display in the Empire Room are the plans of the conservatory and also some old photographs showing the castle as it was before World War One. Lady Monica was a great bridge player and her bridge table is a centrepiece.
